Clean room suspended ceilings are ceilings that can be used in your clean rooms for various purposes. Whether you need them for their hygene, fire-protective properties, sound absorption or just because they look good, clean room suspended ceilings are often an interesting option while restoring your house.
It can look like a big job to install your own clean room suspended ceilings. Especially in a large room, you might look at a task of over 15 hours depending on your situation. Fortunately, you don’t need a lot of expertise on this matter. Most of the processes of installing clean room suspended ceilings are rather basic and can be done by two dexterous people. By utilising mostly houshold tools, clean room suspended ceilings are well within the capabilities of the average owner.
Clean room Suspended ceilings are supposed to be hung from the ceiling joists with a metal grid. This creates the opening between both the joists and the ceiling where wires, pipes, and ductwork can be installed and worked on. A tile ceiling is either glued directly to an existing ceiling or onto so-called “furring strips” that are glued or nailed to the existing ceiling. This type of ceiling works very well both in covering over any older existing ceilings or where a lack of height is a consideration and a suspended ceiling would drop wat too low for comfort. All you need for a suspended ceiling is sufficient head space. Requirements vary, but most codes insist that you need around seven feet ceiling height for such a construction.
It is important to use the right materials and tools for the job. However, a suspended ceiling isn’t that difficult to install and requires no expensive equipment. Many of the tools needed for either suspended or tile ceilings are the same, including metal tape, putty knife, straightedge, nails, a handsaw, a ladder, safety goggles and face mask, chalkline, a drywall pan, a screwdriver, tiles, ganer wire, cross tees and a coping saw and many other tools.
There are many advantages to installing clean room suspended ceilings. They muffle sounds, cover up wires and cables, support lighting systems and often have fireproof characteristics. Noisy rooms can easily be muffled by using acoustic ceilings. Ceilings made of mineral fiber on the other hand are a good option for rooms with a possible fire hazard. But for most other purposes, a classic light-weight clean room suspended ceiling is the best option.
Regulations on clean room suspended ceilings can differ depending on where you live, so always be on the lookout for any legal surprises. However, you normally don’t need a permit for your clean room suspended ceilings. Still, it is better to be safe than sorry.
